Days 8, 9 & 10: Metallic, Rainbow, and Gradient #31DC2014

Hi, Ladies!

I'm going to show you three manis today. I feel like I'm so behind blogging that I want to catch up on here.

For the metallic prompt, I just did simple stamping using Essie Armed and Ready as base, and Penny Talk as the stamping polish, with Pueen Image Plate SE04A. (I got my Essies from Polish Please PH.)  Of course, I used Seche Vite Top Coat

I liked how Armed and Ready has gold undertones.  Penny Talk was my second choice for stamping.  I tried to use Buy Me A Cameo but it wasn't opaque enough to be seen over the base.

For the rainbow prompt, I decided to use pastel colors from the Paris In Love Collection (Color Club) which I bought from Polished In The Cityadded Hello Kitty sticker, and Seche Vite Top Coat.

My application of the top coat was a bit sloppy, so I apologize for the bubbles.

For the gradient prompt, I was finally able to recreate (and murder) Kristin's mani.  I used Lofes 114, Girl Stuff Forever Sophia and Color Club Fondue For Two for the gradient, then some acrylic paints for the "flowers."  Oh, and I used Girl Stuff Forever's Matte Magic for topper.  (And Mom, if you're reading this, this mani is for you, because I LOVE YOUUUUUU.  I know you'll say these are pretty because you love me, toooooo.)

I know, I know, I suck at anything related to art.  I cannot, for the life of me, paint a proper flower.  So here are my pretend-flowers.  You may look at them from afar and see the illusion of flowers.  Maybe I should ask my Daddy Jessie for some one-on-one tutorial, but then again, I'm a hopeless case.

Give me a break. :(

Ciao!!

Day 7: Black and White Nails #31DC2014

Hi, Ladies!

I'm a little bit behind on my challenge.  I actually did the mani on time, it's just the blogging that's late.  I was sick yesterday, but everything's up and running the way it's supposed to be now.

Here's my black and white mani:

I used Orly Liquid Vinyl (black), Lofes 114, Bundle Monster BM 408 for the image, Essence Gel-Look Top Coat.

FYI, this is the first time for me to try the Essence Gel-Look Top Coat and I used it for 3 days without chipping.  I like it, except that the shine dulls everyday, but given that it didn't chip at all despite my rough physical work those 3 days, I think I like it.  I can't say I like it more than my Seche Vite, but it's a close fight.

Okay, now I need to make my next mani.

Ciao!

Day 6: Violet Nails #31DC2014

Hi, Ladies!

I usually post on Instagram before I make a blog, so I already know how many likes I have for my Violet Nails there.  When I was doing my  6th challenge, I was so uninspired, that I just wanted to make a good color combination and do the lazy stripe mani.  Even that, I had to re-do my nails because the colors bled when I took the tape off. Ugh.  I have no idea when the Nail Art Gods will make me Ultra Super Talented in any type of nail art.

Here it is:

I used some random Korean-brand polishes for this.  Lofes for the Violet, and VOV for the teal.  Of course, my ever-reliable Seche Vite Top Coat.

Surprisingly, among all the manis I made for this #31DC2014, this has the most likes.  I will never understand what is likeable and not to most people.  Personally, I like simple, colorful manis.  But of course, some nail artists do rather jaw-dropping manis that I love as well. Bah.  Let me know what you personally like? :)

Ciao, Bella!

Day 4: Green Nails #31DC2014

Hi, Ladies!

So, today's prompt says Green and the design just popped in mind.  I wanted a mud-ish dirty look with some leaves on it, so I browsed through my image plates (although my stamping skill is as unreliable as my free-hand) and came up with this:

I now have a new favorite nude base: Girl Stuff Forever Sophia.  I Seran Wrapped Color Club Fondue For Two (which I got from Polish In The City), then stamped using MoYou London Artist 04 and Mundo De Unas 38.  My pinkie and index fingers have China Glaze Shore Enuff.  I used OPI Matte Top Coat for everything.

How did you do with yours?

Take care,

Jamie

Day 3: Yellow Nails #31DC2014

Hi, Ladies!

The third prompt was Yellow Nails and I didn't want to do flowers, fruits, minions or bees. Luckily, I have the Bundle Monster BM-418 plate, so I stamped over my Sally Hansen Mellow Yellow with images from the plate.

I kind of like the imperfection that my lousy stamping did to this design. It kind of made it look bad-ass-y. :)) Oh well, I try to make excuses for my inability to stamp well. Hoho.

Have a good one!

Day 2: Orange Nails #31DC2014

Hi, Ladies!

Wow, I can't believe I had time to make this second prompt: Orange Nails.  As you can see, it's a wee bit common. LOL!  I. WAS. IN. A. RUSH!  Anyway, I used VOV's Red Orange Speed and Apricot Speed for my colors.  I haven't tried this combo for a leopard mani, and thought to give it a try.  I kind of like how it turned out despite the lack of imagination. Heehee.

Okay, loves.  I promise to be more creative when I'm done with my (work) deadlines. :)

Have a good one!

Love you long time,

Jamie

Day 1: Red Nails #31DC2014

Hi, Ladies!

I have decided to participate in the 31-Day Challenge on Instagram.  For the first prompt, Red Nails.

This was Essie Hip-Anema for the red base, and Pueen Encore SE01A image plate, BK White matte polish for stamping, Seche Vite Top Coat.

I decided to do this design for my mom.  I am staying with her right now because she's not feeling too good.  Instead of buying her roses, I did this design on my nails and on hers.

I apologize for the quality and lighting of this picture.  I am not used to my mom's place's lighting vs my camera phone settings.

I hope to improve my stamping this month.  (And also to be able to complete the challenge!!)

Ciao!

#TheHeartRemembersMani

Hi, Ladies!

I've had a rough August, so I barely posted (or did I even?).  But today is another month, and another story.  I have at least made space to breathe and make manis.

To start, @cmlovesnails started a hashtag called #theheartremembersmani to raise people's awareness on Alzheimer's using purple-colored manis.  I loved what she used for her hashtag.  It makes me remember my grandma who used to suffer the same disease. The heart truly remembers. Thank you, @cmlovesnails.

Here are my #theheartremebersmani /s:

This was using Flormar polish n009 for the base.  The glittered polish was Misslyn in Sexy Love which I got as a prize from Selina's giveaway.  I used Winstonia's W207 plate for the middle finger.

This was OPI's Do You Have This Color In Stock-Holm? from their Nordic Collection, which I bought from PolishPleasePH.  The other colors were from China Glaze's Offshore Collection.

I used OPI's Do You Have This Color In Stock-Holm? again, with China Glaze Dune Our Thing (pinkie and splatter), and Nailed Polish by Sleek Makeup in Lilac for the base.

Lastly, Girl Stuff Forever's Stardust and Wild Berries for this one.

All manis used Seche Top Coat.

All that aside, I am looking to do the #31dc2014 this September!  Have a good one!

Winnie the Pooh Mani for Bless

Hi, Ladies!

My dear friend Bless, AKA @babibs just recently held an exclusive contest for the Filipinails Society.  She adores Winnie the Pooh, so that was our theme.  I was lucky enough to win the special raffle. Thanks again, Bless!!

This was my entry:

I used I Love Nail Polish holos, Flormar #41 and Beauty Kingdom PH water decal.

Oh I know, I haven't been posting much.  But I am trying to join the 31-day OMD2NAILS  challenge, which hopefully I can share with you at the end of the month.  Wish me luck.  I hope to be able to do everyday's challenge.  If you want to check it out, here:  nailthataccent.  Hope you decide to come and join in the fun!!

Ciao,

Girl Stuff Forever: Forever Love

Hi, Ladies!

June 12th is our Philippine Independence Day.  Before it came this year, Girl Stuff Forever had a nail art contest for it.  I was really hesitant to join in because you all already know, I'm not really good at nail art.  I decided to join because my friend tymaria78  asked me to.  There were two (2) winners by the judges' choices, and one (1) for most likes from the Girl Stuff Forever Facebook Page, and another one (1) for most likes from their Instagram.

This was my entry.  I know, I know.  What was "Philippine Independence"-themed here?  Nada, just the colors.  I wasn't the free-hand type of artist, so I decided to do a simple mani using our colors.  I opted the white out, ugh, don't ask me why.  Most of my friends said this looked like a Wonder Woman Mani.  Ha. Ha.  The last laugh was mine because I bagged BOTH the Facebook and Instragram prizes!!! Woooohoooo!!  Thank you, friends, who liked this mani for me. I love you all back!

And, unlike some other brands who held their contest and didn't give out their prizes on time, and as promised, Girl Stuff Forever was very quick in sending out theirs.  And in return, I was more than eager to swatch them all and share them with you!

This was Spellbound, a kind-of liquid sand-ish deep purple with light lavender glitters that's perfect on its own for a night out.

When I saw Enchante, I couldn't help but think it was a perfect complement to Spellbound so I swatched them together and next to each other.  It was like seeing a couple perfect for each other.  Encante has the same liquid sand-ish finish in pink, with lighter pink glitters this time.  I would say, another perfect date-night color.

Stardust was a milky taupe-y nude with pink micro-glitters with lavender and pink round glitters. Xoxo was a matte-frosted fuchsia, satiny with its purple undertone.

Cosmos reminded me of Cookies & Cream with its milky white sheer color and its black & white round and micro-glitters.

These guys sell for P140 a bottle.  Some colors are at P100 even. Not expensive, right?  Totally worth it, too, because they dry up fairly easily, plus I love their brushes!!  Oh, and they also have this cutesy shape that's really easy to store.

Wait up, I gotta show you mine:

Okay, so, there.  Your OC in you will be very, very happy. :)

Go, NOW, they're available at SM Mall of Asia, SM Megamall, SM North Edsa and I am pretty sure I saw them at the Kids Section of Rustan's.  You may also email them at forevergirlstuff@gmail.com if you want to order online.

WIN-WIN-WIN!  Again, THANK YOU, GIRL STUFF!

Love you long time,

Jamie

Make Up Store Philippines: Nail Polish

Hi, Ladies!

I collected a few of my manis using Make Up Store Philippines polish.  To be really honest, this was my first purchase from the store.  I always go visit but never purchased.  That last time though, I wanted to buy just one polish to try, but ended up buying more than I budgeted for it.  No regrets though.   They were on sale for 40% off.  So hurry yourself up if you're planning on bringing home some. Their selection is huuuuuge.

This was Clarissa.  When I bought it, I thought I was buying a lavender polish.  After trying it on, I realized it was more of a taupe-y color, only leaning on a little lavender.  It was really easy to apply, compared to my imagination of it being streaky, because it wasn't at all.  It was really clean, so I decided to stamp on a design for my accent nail from my Pueen 73 plate and decorated black studs on the rest.  Not the perfect stamping, but I liked how it turned out.
Now, Patricia here was a deeper pink with a little purple frost undertone.  Anki was a frosted lavender with micro glitters.  They reminded me of disco, so I took my Winstonia W216 plate and stamped on a disco queen on for accent.  They were opaque in 2 coats, and easy to apply.

This was Annica, a nude-peach frost that's really perfect for everyday use.  I used a water decal that I got from Beauty Kingdom PH  for the accent.  This is probably my favorite (nail art) of the three, although I ended up loving Clarissa most from the four colors above.

All manis used Seche Vite top coat.

Till my next post!

Nail Art by Jess Gellada

Hey, Everyone!!!!!!

OKAY? OKAY.  I need water.  I need to drink.  Still giddy from what just happened. In my head, I'm doing a happy dance. *oh yeah, oh yeah, uhhhh yeaaahhhhh!!* LOL!

FYI, my Daddy-in-law's an artist.  I live with them and see his paintings everywhere inside the house.  Sometimes I see him paint, but never from start to finish (and never on my nails, lol).  I had my mom buy a big life-like koi painting from him. (Will take a picture of that soon and post it here.)  So, anyway, when this pond manicure became popular on IG, I asked him if he could teach me how to paint koi.

This was our trial mani.  (We didn't do a pond manicure just yet because I currently do not own a sheer green or blue polish.)

I used Essie In The Cab-Ana for the base, and he used acrylic paint for the koi.  This is a really special mani for me since he showed it to me step-by-step.  I was fangirl-ing so bad. His brush strokes were just incredible.  (He did this in less than 5 minutes.) It reminded me of my old Chinese Calligraphy classes in the past (that I obviously didn't take seriously.)  Hopefully someday, I'll be able to make an awesome koi mani/pond mani, too.

Thanks, Dad, for taking time to paint art on my nails. I love you. :)

Always,

Jamie

Recreation of ChalkboardNails Fuzzy Monster Mani

Hi, Ladies!

I will try to post once every time I make a mani, and not collect the bunch and then post them all together.

Today, I ticked off a mani I've been meaning to recreate since I first saw it last year.  I screen-captured it because it was the cutest, most creative use of the feather/fuzzy polish.

I used Orly Beach Cruiser for the base.  And thank god, Chalkboard Nails used the textured fuzzy polish because when I got my Nails Inc. Feathers, I had no idea how to use it.  I just bought it for the sake of trying them at least once.  So, a year and so after the purchase, here I am using Nails Inc Edinburg on top of the Sinful Colors Endless Blue. That's a BK white polish under Sally Hansen Tweedy, Nicole by OPI Ladies In The Limelight under Sally Hansen's Peach Fuzz.  And then it's Nails Inc again with Brighton over Essie Where's My Chauffer.
Anyway, my child's bugging me to paint these little monsters on her nails.  Uhhh, soon.  Lazy mode: ON.
Now, my next problem is, how and when to use these guys again.  Lol.  Let you know when I think of something original, but don't bet on it. LOL.
Thank you, Chalkboard Nails for being such an inspiration.  You rock!
Always,
Jamie

#fsnailartchallegemay

Hi, Ladies!

How have you been?  Well, I thought I will be less busy this month, but seems like my calendar's filled to the end.

Here's a late post of the challenge I did with my group, #filipinails.  I was busy the whole month of May, so I could only do simple manis.

For the first challenge, it was #floral.

This was inspired by @adelislebron.  I used Essie Go Ginza, which I got from Polish Please.

Then I had to do an #abstract design.  This is as abstract as I can get.  I am not very artistic, you see.  So I used a yellow base for this mani, and I apologize if I totally forgot which. (Either Zoya Pippa or the Tony Moly polish I have.) And then I used some random acrylic colors and used the toothbrush technique to kind of splatter the colors in.

And, please, feel free to laugh at this #skyline mani.  Everyone else was doing Paris, or something romantic and I couldn't put myself into doing those.  I chose a Godzilla which turned out perfectly...like Barney. :((

For the #inspiredby mani, I chose Ada 's leopard+swoosh mani.  I couldn't do her swoosh mani properly so please head on to her account to check her great nail art.  I used Lofes pink and blue for this.

I promise to take note of all the polish I use next time.  It's just that this #galaxy mani got me to bring out a lot of dark, light and glittering polishes that I wasn't able to track every one of them.  This is my 3rd (or 4th) galaxy nails ever.  I still need to practice some more to be able to perfect it.  That's Essie's Sparkle on Top I'm holding, in case you're interested, and got it from Polish Please.

And probably my least favorite technique, but absolutely my favorite mani from this challenge: #tape.  I used OPI's Neon Revolution for this.

All manis used Seche Vite.

Wish you all a good June! Hopefully I can make more manis this month.

Love you long time,

Jamie

I Couldn't Help It. I Fell In Love With Morgan Taylor.

Hi, Ladies!

I'm back!  Remember when I first tried Morgan Taylor polish from Beauty Kingdom and fell in love with it?  Well, I couldn't help but buy a few more bottles when I went back to 168 last week.

I promise I tried (at least I did) to avoid the glitter polishes but maaaan, it was too hard.  But good thing is, I also got a couple of creme bottles to try.

So, this one is a gorgeous lavender color that dries semi-matte, and it's called "Invitation Only".  The square crystal studs are also from the store.

This little baby turquoise bottle here, is hard to find.  I tell you, weeks before going to the store, I messaged the Boss to reserve a bottle for me, and he said he didn't have it.  When I got to the store, I looked at his swatch book to check out colors that I wanted, and didn't see this.  But looking at the actual stock rack, I came across this baby, alone, without a name in the book, and wanting a mommy. I HAD TO TAKE IT IN. I had to.  I loved it the first time I saw it on Morgan Taylor's Instagram Account.  You better believe I teared a little when I held it in my hand.  "Lost In Paradise" (but it was, literally, in that polish rack)

"Best Dressed" is a frosted red that shifts a little gold and a little orange.  Perfect for a formal night out, as the name suggests. The gold ribbon accent was also from the store.

"J'adore My Mani" looked similar to "Best Dressed" in the bottle, but I had to take them both home to try, and only to find out that this one is a deep fuchsia glitter that is both sweet and elegant.  How can I not love them all?
"Sweetest Thing" indeed.  This reminded me of OPI's limited Katy Perry edition "Teenage Dream" with its pink and holographic glitters.
Last but definitely not the least, "Fame Game" is a holographic glitter polish.  I recreated thejuiceboxlacquer's rose-tipped mani for this swatch.  This is a one-coater but is so magical.

To cap it off, Morgan Taylor is definitely worth all the love I give it.  The colors are all easy to apply, plus I like that the brush is a little hard but dense (it doesn't split from the bunch, if you know what I mean).  My only regret with the trip I made was that I ONLY GOT SIX BOTTLES when I could've gotten more.  I mean for the SRP of 408, and get 30% discount from the Boss???  GO GRAB YOURSELF MORE THAN A COUPLE.  Tell the Boss you deserve that 30% discount, but hurry because I don't know when the promo ends!

All these manis were finished with Seche Vite, of course, also from the store.  And all items were purchased using my own money.  (Well, I wish I could get freebies next time, Boss, eh?) <--Lol, kidding.

Oh, and PS? I couldn't pick a favorite because I love them all equally.

Ciao, Carabao!

Jamie

Work-Appropriate Nudes and Pinks

Hi,  Ladies!
I'm going to try to blog using my phone today.  Let's see how clean this blog can get.
I have a few work-appropriate colors from OPI here for you.
First off: Otherwise Engaged.  This was 3 thin coats of a very light pink with bluish shimmer.   I actually don't see the shimmer much after application, although the bottle seemed like it had.  I can totally see this one being used as a base color for some special-occasion-French.

And then, here are Hopelessly in Love (pinky & ring) and Coney Island Cotton Candy (middle & index):

Hopelessly in Love is a rather creme-y Peach nude.  I used 3 coats for this, and it was a tad streaky, so be careful to use thin ones when using it.  Coney Island Cotton Candy is a sheer peach. Clean after 3 thin coats.

I swatched them beside each other because I thought they looked so much the same from the bottle. That's CICC on the left, and HIL on the right.  Well, this picture doesn't really show how similar they look in person, but you know what I mean. :)

This is (L-R) Dulce de Leche, Barefoot in Barcelona, DdL, BiB.

Two coats of Dulce de Leche made it even more obvious that it is the lighter of the two.  In the bottle, it had a slight hint of silver shimmer but did not show after application.  Barefoot in Barcelona is the darker kind-of old rose-y nude color, 2 coats in.

Again, I took a shot of them side-by-side because the colors looked similar from the bottle. That's Barefoot in Barcelona on the left, Dulce de Leche on the right.

Ok, here I do not think they look the same but just wanted to swatch them beside each other: It's A Girl and Hawaiian Orchid.

This was 3 thin coats of It's A Girl, a sheer baby pink.  And then 2 coats of Hawaiian Orchid which was a pink with blue-toned shimmer.

Cosmo-not Tonight Honey! is a gold-toned frosted nude color.  This was 2 coats, easy application!  I don't think you can go wrong with this!

2 coats of Chicago Champagne Toast showed that it's a pinkish-red chrome color.  It was opaque in 1 coat but I had to put another layer to smoothen out my strokes.  Make sure you have clean, buffed nails when using this color because it emphasizes your nail bed's imperfection.

And lastly, Taupe-less Beach is, what else? A taupe-y nude that's super easy to apply, really opaque in 2 coats.

All the swatches were made without top coat.

I hope this helps you pick a few colors for work!  So, what's your favorite?

Love you long time,

Jamie

Backlogs

Hi, Ladies!

I haven't been blogging for a long time and I have only excuses to make.   I'm sorry.

I sure have a lot of plans on what to blog about, but right now my hands are full (for the month of May), with a lot of birthdays here and there (including my husband's), so I will apologize for the rest of the days coming.

Here are some of the nail art designs I created and recreated while I was gone:

This one I did in a rush.  I work at a nail spa and I had to do an easter egg mani, so this is what I came up with.  I totally forgot what colors I used, but the dots and lines were acrylic paint, so...
And this one is a solo shot of my bestie twin nails with @hotmomsnailarts.  I used Zoya Pippa for the yellow, and then some Lofes: Korean brand polish for the other 3 colors, plus acrylic paint.  This was inspired by @NonaPhilippa on IG.

This is another solo shot of another bestie twin nails I did with My Labs, Ada, AKA @galaxystar7 this time. :) This mani was inspired by @mllrdesign.  I used Essie Sugar Daddy for the base, and then China Glaze Bottoms Up, Orly Melt Your Popsicle and Glowsticks for the feathers.  This is our first pond manicure. :)
This mani I recreated from @stormandstars.  I used Orly Liquid Vinyl and then acrylic paint for the rest.
This mani was inspired by my favorite @jauntyjuli.  I used Essie Boom Boom Room for the pink, Lofes for the white, and acrylic paint for the rest.

Lastly, a solo shot of my bestie triplet nails with Ada @galaxystar7 and Bea @beabarretto. This mani was inspired by @youngwildandpolished.  I used Color Club Ruby Slippers, Lofes White, Orly Black Vinyl, Sephora By OPI Pushing Your Luck.

How boring.  I hope I will be able to blog about something informative soon. Tsk.

See you all next time!

Jamie
